TSM-8AD8 is an analog input module designed for applications where not precision but price is the decisive criterion. The simple 8 bit A/D converter gives a resolution of 256 steps on the input signal, which translates for example into 0.5°C steps on the KTY input version.

Many of the every-day computer applications do not require the high precision usually associated with analog inputs. Regulation of process temperatures, for instance, very often requires no more accuracy than about two degrees centigrade.

This is where TSM-8AD8 is the module of your choice: it not only is very cheap itself, it also allows using cheap sensors directly. Silicon temperature sensors with a 2°C accuracy are available below 1 DM in a standard transistor case and at very reasonable prices even in special threaded packages directly insertable into aggressive media. For temperatures beyond 100°C, thermocouples can be used as a moderately priced alternative.
